George Hannie Conner, aged 82, of Murrayville, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. He was born on October 6, 1941, to the late Clyde Conner and the late Dorothy Everett Conner. George honorably served his country in the US Army from 1964 to 1966. Following his service, he found fulfillment in a career at ConAgra Feed Mill, where he dedicated himself to his work for many years.
George was a man of many talents and passions, but perhaps none so beloved as his knack for woodworking. He found joy and purpose in disassembling wooden objects, only to piece them back together, often with liberal amounts of wood glue. This hobby became symbolic of his patient and thoughtful nature, leaving behind countless creations as testaments to his craftsmanship.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Conner; sisters Libby (Frank) Featherston, Mary Brookshire, Clydine (Joe) Hulsey; as well as sister-in-law Jenny Conner and brother-in-law Rick Hunnicutt.
He is survived by his children, Ken (Rhonda) Conner and David (Tammy) Conner; grandchildren Ashley (Andrew) Stevenson, Blake Conner, and Alicia (Jamie) Saunders; great-grandchildren Harrison Saunders and Harper Saunders; brothers Joe (Vivian) Conner, Johnny (Nancy) Conner, Charles Conner, Donald Conner, and Nelson (Jean) Conner; sister Edwina (Wayne) Blackburn; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Joel Brookshire and Eloise Hunnicutt. Numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services to honor and celebrate George's life will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Yellow Creek Baptist Church, where the Reverend Ricky Stone will officiate. Following the service, interment will take place in the church cemetery, with Nelson Conner officiating and military honors being rendered. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church from 11:00 AM until the service hour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association to further their research efforts. Donations may be sent to 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
