Jimmy Snider

Obituary Date: Saturday, April 13, 2024

Jimmy Snider, born February 15, 1939, in Macon County, NC and formerly of Dahlonega, passed away after a battle with Dementia on April 13, 2024, at his home in Suches Ga. Mr. Snider was 85 years old.

Jimmy grew up in the Coopers Creek area of Suches, He married “the prettiest girl on the creek”, Eloise, in 1962 and began his legacy of being a Girl Dad. Jimmy was very proud of building a home for his family and he cut all the wood in the sawmill he ran with his father that was used to build that home. In the 1970s his family moved briefly to Texas where many memories were made. When his family returned, he and several members of the Community founded The Woody Gap Sports Club in Suches that raised money to provide school sports uniforms and later provided college scholarships to graduates of Woody Gap School. Jimmy was a man of many talents, he poured concrete basements and built bridges and culverts all over North Georgia with his business he established, Smokey Mountain Contractors. After he exited the concrete world, he took his expertise and eye for construction to the trade of building cell phone towers from Texas to the East Coast with Cherokee Contracting. He was known to point out the many cell phone towers he supervised in building while he and Eloise took their cross-country trip driving from Georgia to the West Coast and back. Later in life, Jimmy had a desire to begin trucking. He started with a small car hauler and that led to him beginning a business of hauling freight with his Big Rig. With much convincing from his daughter, he gave up his keys to the big truck and began his late love of gardening. Jimmy was known around Dahlonega for his tomatoes and green beans that he would grow every summer. Jimmy always followed through with going after his dreams throughout his life. Whether it was getting his pilots license and owning an airplane, to building a racecar and spending every Saturday night at Lanier Speedway. Jimmy was a member and Deacon at Corinth Baptist Church in Suches.

Jimmy was proceded in death by his daughter and his “Mini Me”, Tammy Kanaday, his parents, Tommy and Lucy Snider, mother and father in-law, Hubert and Mary Picklesimer, brother and sister in-law, Sylvan Pickelsimer and Carolyn Coker.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 61 years, Eloise Snider of Suches. His daughters, April Warren of Suches and Wendy (Todd) Anderson of Dahlonega. His Grandchildren, Katie Hinton of Gainesville, Collin (Amberly) Warren of Cornelia, Korri (Levi) Gibson of Demorest and Caleb
