Laverne McDuffie

Laverne McDuffie, age 76, of Augusta, GA passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2024. She was born in 1947, to the late Benjamin “Frank” Gilmer, Sr. and Mattie “Eufola” Gilmer. Laverne was a lifelong resident of Gillsville, GA, and a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. She retired from AT&T/Lucent Technology where she made many lifelong friends. Laverne enjoyed traveling and getting together with her family and friends. She never met a stranger wherever she went and always enjoyed making people laugh. She was generous and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis McDuffie; son, Rodney Brock; siblings, Benjamin Franklin Gilmer, Jr., Stanley Gilmer, and Thomas Gilmer; nephew, Keith Miller, and special friend, Ace Bennett.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Janet Brock; grandchildren; Dylan Brock, Zachary (Erin) Brock, Taylor (Josh) Mullins, Colin Brock, and Matthew Brock; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Juanita Miller; nieces Amy Purgason and Christie Lorton; numerous great nieces and nephews; along with many other loving relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Little and Davenport Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA with Rev. Ken Barrett officiating. Interment will follow at Lebanon United Methodist Church in Gillsville, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Meals on Wheels or Community Council on Aging in memory of Laverne.
