Commander Judith Lynn Tucker, USN Retired, died April 3, in Gainesville, Georgia,following an extended illness.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, April 13 at Oak Hill Cemetery, 330 Erwin Street, Cartersville, Georgia.
Judy, born August 5, 1943, was a 1961 graduate of Cartersville High School. She received her nursing diploma in 1967 from Piedmont Hospital School of Nursing, Atlanta, Georgia. As a registered nurse, she worked in Georgia, Connecticut and Florida prior to joining the United States Navy Nurse Corps in 1974.
Judy served in naval centers and hospitals located in the eastern United States and Sicily. She was assigned to the USNS Comfort, deployed to the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, from 1990-1991.
She received numerous commendations and medals and obtained additional degrees during her military career. Judy was an incredible leader and caregiver. Steadfast in her faith, she was loving, kind and generous.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Laura S. Tucker and Charles L. Tucker; brother Charlie Tucker; and nephew, Jody Tucker.
Survivors include her brother and his wife, Sammy and Connie Tucker, Gainesville; niece, Jennifer Tucker, Brookhaven; nephews, Chuck Tucker and Jason Tucker, Cartersville; and sister-in-law, Sue Tucker, Cartersville. Other family members and friends, including Helen VanName, North Charleston, South Carolina, also survive.
The family extends appreciation to those who lovingly assisted in Judy’s care the last years of her life.
