Dr. Barbara Roberts Duke, 74, of Jefferson, GA, died Saturday, April 6th, 2024, in her home surrounded by her family.
Barbara was born on September 11th, 1949, to Ralph and Louise “Nanny” Roberts in Jefferson, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jeff Roberts.
Barbara was a motivated, life-long learner.
She received her Doctorate Degree in Education from the University of Georgia.
She was the first female graduate of Jefferson High School to receive this title.
Barbara had a long and successful career in education that began in Jefferson City Schools as a classroom teacher.
She held the positions of Lead Teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Title I and ESOL Coordinator, and Director of School Improvement for Clarke County School District.
After retirement, she had a thriving business, The Concrete Cow, where her gift of painting shined.
Aside from her career accomplishments, she was most proud of her family.
Showering them with her many gifts was what she enjoyed most in life.
She was a giver. She also had a life-long love of reading.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-three years, Billy Duke of Jefferson, son, Taylor Duke (Lynn) of Nicholson, son Tucker Duke (Rachel) of Jefferson, and daughter, Timberlie McEver (Mac) of Jefferson. She had seven grandchildren who were the lights of her life: Emily Pace, Hallie, Trey, Jett & Brooks McEver, and Liam & Easton Duke. She is survived by two siblings, Freddie Roberts and Karen Hemphill (Ricky).
