Mrs. Bettye Joe Brooks was born on March 4, 1942, to the late Tanner Yarbrough and Nezzie Herring in Gainesville, Georgia. She departed this life on April 1, 2024. Bettye’s life was a testament to her unwavering dedication to her family, her work, and the many lives she touched. Bettye graduated from Bryant High School in Jefferson, GA. She furthered her education at Lake Lanier Vocational School and North Georgia College in Dahlonega, GA. Her professional journey at Parkway Enterprises was marked by years of committed service until her retirement in 2000. Bettye’s passion extended beyond her professional life as she became a staunch advocate for Neonatal Care at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA. Her nurturing spirit found its true calling as she opened her heart and home as a foster mother, providing love and guidance to countless children in the Gainesville community. Her love for sewing and cooking was only surpassed by the joy she found in the company of her beloved family. Bettye’s union to Robert “Richard” Brooks was blessed with four wonderful children: the late Martin “Stefan” Brooks, Robert “Ricky” Brooks, Jr., Tammy Brooks Saleh, and Emelia Brooks. Bettye’s memory will also be cherished by her siblings, Jackie (Michael) Cantrell, Sandra Herring, Shirley Ann Taylor, Jack (Sharon) Herring, Harvey Eugene Herring, Sammy (Brenda) Herring, Lawrence Herring Jr., and Benjamin Herring. Her grandchildren, Veshawnda (Braxston) Pittman, Andrew Brooks, Krystyn Young, Kaylyn (Patrick) McCrary, Kelsha Brooks, Ashley Brooks, Desary Spurlock, Mickell Brooks, and Fidane Hill; along with her thirteen great-grandchildren and Godson Clarence Haynes, will forever hold onto the lessons and love that she imparted.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 6,2024 at Memorial Park Chapel at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 5,2024 at Wimberly Funeral Home between the hours of 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Family will receive friends between the hours of 6:00PM to 8:00 PM.
