Joy S. Greer

Obituary Date: Sunday, March 24, 2024

Joy S. Greer, a loving and gracious presence to all who knew her, peacefully passed away on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2024, at her home in Buford, Georgia.

Born on April 25, 1942, in Atlanta, GA, to the late John and Annie Mae Scoggins, Joy's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and servitude.

Joy was the epitome of selflessness, always placing the needs of others before her own. Her life was rich with the joy of giving, whether through her work in the church, her caring for people, or through the countless hours she devoted to cooking and hosting reunions and family gatherings.  All of which she did with a servant heart in the interest of others.

She cherished the simple moments in life and was lovingly devoted to making a warm, kind and inviting home. Whether it was tending to her family, enjoying her grandchildren, or cooking for others, Joy found happiness in seeing those around her be happy as well.

Her most important act of love and devotion was to her beloved husband of 64 years, David Greer. Theirs was a beautiful love story of a life well lived. She made sure their bond was tight, everlasting and a tribute to their commitment and love.  Together they built a legacy of love and devotion that will last forever.

Joy leaves behind cherished memories with her husband, David T. Greer; her son David A. Greer  and his wife Amy; and daughter Cathy Greer Hill and her husband Brad.

In addition, her spirit will live on through her grandchildren Jonathan Hill, David, Wade and Gracie Greer and Justin, Kayla, Andrew, and Kendall.  She was blessed with a beautiful great granddaughter Hallie Jean Hill. Beyond those treasures, she touched the lives of many others including several nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was the consummate steward of family and loved her siblings dearly keeping them in her thoughts daily. She is survived by her sisters Sue Fisk and Jane Scoggins and her brother Dan Scoggins. She is reunited with her late sisters Ann Morris, Nell Morgan, and brother Don Scoggins.

The Greer family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Joy's life. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 29th, 2024, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Flanigan Funeral Home located at 4400 S. Lee Street in Buford, Georgia.

A service to honor her remarkable life will take place at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at Flanigan’s, and Joy will be laid to rest in a serene ceremony at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, directly after the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Joy’s home church, Harmony Grove United Methodist Church in Lilburn, Georgia. HarmonyGroveUMC.com/online-giving
