Edith Rohletter Smith, age 93 of Mt. Airy, passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024.
Born in Clarkesville, Georgia on October 9, 1930, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Howard and Duskie Elder Rohletter. She was a case worker for the Department of Family and Childrens Services for over 34 years. Mrs. Smith was a wonderful cook, a skill that she lovingly shared through serving with Meals on Wheels, the Habersham Soup Kitchen, and on the Bereavement Committee at Clarkesville Baptist Church, where she was also a member. Mrs. Smith loved being surrounded by family, especially her grandchildren, great grands, and great-great grand; she also enjoyed letting each one of them know how special they were by making their choice of birthday cake. Mrs. Smith was the last member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband Charles Smith, brothers Guy Rohletter and Ray Rohletter, and sisters Jewell Welborn, Bonnie Franklin and Barbara Fry.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Richard and Wanda Smith of Mt. Airy, Chris and Rhonda Smith of Clarkesville and Debbie and Doug Cunningham of Clarkesville, sister in law Mary Rohletter of Atlanta, brother in law and sister in law Kenneth and Lois Smith of Cornelia, grandchildren Corey Smith (Kathy) of Demorest, Cassie Smith Shirley (Jason) of Clarkesville, Bart Cunningham (Melanie) of Clarkesville, Brittany Cunningham of Clarkesville, Beth Cunningham Knight (James) of Clarkesville, Ethan Smith (Cheri) of Athens and Cody Smith (Taylor) of Cleveland, Tennessee, great grandchildren, Cooper, Cy and Beckett Shirley, Will, Joey (Mattie), and Karsyn Cunningham, Preston (Megan), Makayla, and Braiden Knight, Skylar, Sage, Emory, and Avery Smith, and great – great grandchild Quinton Knight, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Hillside Memorial Chapel with Pastor Grady Waldon, officiating. Interment will follow the service at Yonah Memorial Gardens, Demorest. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service on Monday, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
