Cecil Frank Altman, age 91, of Sautee Nacoochee, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
Cecil was born in Hoboken, Georgia on June 18, 1932, the son of the late Cyrus Jefferson and Gertrude Vesta Carter Altman, and grew up on a tobacco farm. He served in the Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. Cecil later graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Accounting. Over the years Cecil worked in office management for several medical practices and in both the insurance and publishing industries, retiring as the Office Manager for Argus, the publishing company for Atlanta Magazine.
Cecil was a Master Gardener who loved being outdoors and tending to his gardens. He was a great grower of rhododendrons and azaleas and was well known for his many varieties of beautiful blooms. He was an avid University of Georgia football fan and season ticket holder for over 40 years. Cecil and his loving wife, Helen, were longtime members of Nacoochee Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by wife Helen Robertson Altman, whom he married in 1966, as well as siblings H.J. Altman (Cola), Gibson Altman (Mary Frances), Hilton Altman, Bennie Altman (June), Sallie Altman Scheer (George), Ralph Altman (Desi), Reecy Altman Crawford (BJ), Margaret Faye Altman (infant), Jeanette Altman Pryor, Carolyn Altman Lucas (Tommy), Wayne Altman (Leo) and Gilbert Altman (Darielle)
Survivors include brother DeWitt (Meredith) Altman, sister Linda (Ted) Hickox, his loving and devoted caregiver Kelly Clark, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Keith Windmiller officiating. Private interment will follow the service in Nacoochee Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service Tuesday, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
