Peggy Jean Weaver Hood

Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. Proverbs 31:1

Mrs. Peggy Jean Weaver Hood, age 76 of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Peggy was born in Bucktown, in the mountains of Gilmer County to the late Paul and Zennie Weaver.

It’s impossible to sum up in a few short paragraphs who Peggy (mom) was, or how immense the impact of losing her is. She was so many things to so many people.

Mom was the kindest person you would ever cross paths with. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. Anyone blessed to know her was left better for it afterwards.

Mom was a true homemaker, there for everything for pops and us kids. Every doctor's appointment, sports event, play, recital, she was there. She even traveled all the way to Canada to watch her youngest compete- her first flight when she was in her 70’s! In addition, she and pops built a successful business working side by side for many years.

She was a talented cook, quickly throwing together big country breakfasts with biscuits, gravy,  eggs, ham, and bacon. As well as wonderful lunches of vegetables fresh from her garden- fried okra, squash, corn, tomatoes, and peas, along with a slice of her amazing cornbread.

Also, she was a prolific writer. She must have pinned thousands of poems of praise to her Lord. Mom was overflowing with thankfulness for God's goodness in her life.

Gardening was her therapy. She loved to get out early in the morning and "putter around" in her beautiful vegetable garden and tend to her colorful flower beds. She could name any tree, bush, plant, vine, or bird! She had an abundant knowledge of nature and she loved being outside, surrounded by its beauty.

Mom was adventurous, sometimes goofy, and loved to laugh. Always willing to head to the park for a picnic, Crimson Moon for a concert, trivia nights around the square, or Atlanta for a show. One of her favorite things in her last years was to head to the coffee shop to get a peppermint mocha and then travel the back roads to see the sights.

Mom loved the Lord. She was a devoted member of the Primitive Baptist Church her whole life. She shared that love with her entire family, bringing them up to love one another, to forgive, and to look for the good in people and circumstances, how to seek God in the midst of a storm, and how to seek him in the good times. She also instilled her love of singing hymns to her children and her grandchildren.

In her last week, Mom gave us instructions: Life is short. Take time to toss a ball with the kids. Spend time with those you love. Fear not. Her prayer was that the Lord would take care of her children and grandchildren, proving to be a precious mother to the end.

Although we are heartbroken to be apart from her in this life, we know where she is and Who she is with! “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”. We rejoiced for her, knowing that her suffering is over and she is now with our Lord.  

"Her children shall rise up and call her blessed. Her husband also, and he praiseth her." Proverbs 31:28

You were the best mother any of us could have asked for or wanted. We know that we have been abundantly blessed to have you as our mother. We love you so much and we will miss you every day until we see you again.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Charles Fred Hood; brothers Jack, Jim, and Perry Weaver; sister-in-law Jean Weaver, Kathy Weaver, and Ruth Weaver.

She is survived by her loving children, Cheryl (John) Carter of Dahlonega, Greg (Aileen) Hood of Dahlonega, and Amy Hood of Atlanta; brothers Hoyt (Peggy Ann) Weaver of NC, Mark (Barbara) Weaver of Dahlonega,  and Fred Weaver of Gillsville;  sister Polly (JB) Bearden of Dahlonega; grandchildren Abby Carter, Joseph Carter, Jack Carter, and Lily Carter of Dahlonega and Megan Hood of Dawsonville; and great-grandchildren Owen Dawson, Zoey Dawson, and Maxton Mazzei, all of Dawsonville.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 pm Friday, March 22, 2024, in the chapel of Anderson Underwood Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Tickanetley Primitive Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
