Dawn Van Meeveren Adams, age 72, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 2, 2024.
Born in Orange City, Iowa, on June 1, 1951, Dawn was the only child of Arthur Van Meeveren and Rebecca Mae Harrison Van Meeveren. With her mother a college librarian, and her father a college English teacher, Dawn lived in many college towns from California to Florida and Iowa to Tennessee.
Dawn graduated from Wheaton College and received her master’s degree in library science from Florida State. She moved to Toccoa as assistant librarian at Toccoa Falls College and joined First Presbyterian Church.
One of her friends from church introduced her to Henry Adams. They were married for 36 years. Dawn worked for 12 years at Toccoa Falls and then worked for 32 years at North Georgia Technical College in Clarkesville and then Eastanollee where she planned and opened the Currahee Campus library.
Dawn was known for her love of reading, and her great love of dogs. She enjoyed eating out, and Mexican was a favorite.
Dawn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Henry.
She is survived by a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Alton and Emily Adams, and two nephews, Andy Adams (Morgan) of Atlanta, and Mark Adams (Lisa), and a great nephew, Samuel Adams all of Toccoa; cousin, Judy Vander Brek of Colorado Springs, Colorado and several other cousins. She is also survived by Rusty, her “long-legged dachshund.”
It was Dawn’s wish to be cremated and her ashes interred next to her husband’s in Toccoa Presbyterian’s columbarium. There will be a visitation and memorial service at a time to be announced.
