Myra Sue Hyde Helton

Obituary Date: Wednesday, February 28, 2024

Mrs. Myra Sue Hyde Helton, age 85, of Oakwood passed away Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at her residence, surrounded by family.

Funeral Services will be 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Zion Hill Baptist Church with interment following in the church cemetery.  Rev. Scott Wilson will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2024 at the church.

Mrs. Helton was born June 10, 1938 to the late Floyd Thomas & Alma Sara Wilkins in Atlanta.  A member of County Line Baptist Church in Alpharetta. Myra spent many years as the manager for The Busy Restaurant, in Gainesville in the late 1960’s into the 1970’s where she never met a stranger and was quick to share how proud she was of her two sons. After leaving the restaurant industry, she began working for Warren Featherbone Company as a seamstress, for which she always had a passion. She eventually landed at The Loveable Company, where she retired as a Seamstress. Other than The Busy Restaurant, The Lovable Company was her most favorite place to work. She enjoyed not only the work but the people she met from countries around the world; sharing stories of their lives before coming to America and being able to learn about their cultures and how to be accepting of the differences in people. She was able to hear their life stories and share her own. Her co-workers at Loveable became like a second family to her and she was sad when the company had to close. Myra retired shortly after the closing of The Loveable Company and spent many years caring for her parents until their passing.

Mrs. Helton is survived by sons & daughters-in-love, Tommy & Kay Gillespie-Hyde of Oakwood and Tim & Carol Hyde of Buford; sister, Gail Slaton Matthews of Marietta, great grand-children Ansley Baskin-Hyde and Chloe Baskin-Hyde of Buford, special friend Sandra Carlstedt of Buford and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne Howard Hyde and second husband, Howard Helton; and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Ode Garrison and Mr. and Mrs. Tom (Love Waters) Wilkins.
