Elaine Alexander Reed

Mrs. Elaine Alexander Reed, age 74 of Oakwood, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Riverbend Oakwood Church with interment following at Oakwood City Cemetery. Rev. Scott Wilson, Rev. Randall Reed, & Rev. Jim Austin will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, March 1, 2024 at Memorial Park South Funeral Home and from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 2, 2024 prior to the service at Riverbend Oakwood Church.

Mrs. Reed was born December 8, 1949 to the late Vernon and Brennie (Wilson) Alexander in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Alexander family later moved to Oakwood, where she met her love, Gary Reed and they married on June 8, 1969 and had 3 son, Sam, Chris, & Tim.

Upon becoming a mother, Elaine dedicated her life to her family. She later served as a hall county court clerk for the past 15 years.

Elaine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cheering on her grandchildren in all their sports and endeavors. She was an avid reader and didn’t miss an episode of her soaps. She attended Riverbend Oakwood Church (formerly First Baptist Church of Oakwood) where she was a member of the wisdom circle. She had a flair for life, with her nails always manicured with the latest festive design and jewelry that matched every outfit. Her strong conviction and loving heart will be dearly missed. 

She is survived by her sons, Sam (Kristy) Reed of Jefferson, Chris (Angela) Reed of Lawrenceville, & Tim (Lauren) Reed of Roswell; honorary son, Matthew Hembree; grandchildren, Bailey Reed, Taylor (Hayden) Adams, Zachary Reed, Amelia Reed, Oliver Reed, Penelope “Poppy” Reed, & Violet Reed; great-grandson, August Adams; great-nephew, Rhodes Hembree; siblings, Deborah Dyar, Kathy Irvin, Benita Dewitt, Rebecca Alexander, Phillip Alexander, Ken Alexander, & Tony Alexander; and dear friend & sister-in-law, Kathy Hembree.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Gary Eugene Reed.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Riverbend Oakwood Church wisdom circle.
