With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of Loretta Black, a loving and compassionate soul, on February 24, 2024. Born on November 14, 1943, in Dahlonega, Georgia to Willie and Lula Black. She was preceded in death by her parents, and great-great nephews, Damon and Asher Port.
Loretta dedicated her professional life to being the welcoming face and reassuring voice as a secretary at North Georgia College for several years. Her warm smile and caring demeanor made her a favorite among co-workers and students alike. In the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." This quote resonates profoundly with Loretta's life, as she effortlessly touched the lives of many with her loving and compassionate nature.
Loretta is survived by her siblings Minnie Westbrook, Bill (Betty) Black, Evelyn (Henry) Shope, and nieces and nephews Buffy (Tommy) Smith, Jo Jones, Rodney (Christy) Black, and Mike (Percida) Shope. She also survived by 10 great nieces and nephews, 3 great-great nieces and nephews.
A visitation for Loretta will be held at Dahlonega Funeral Home, 20 Gibson Road, Dahlonega, Georgia, 30533, on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 5:00 pm EST, and again on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 12:00 pm EST. The funeral service will commence at the same venue on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at 2:00 pm EST.
