Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Martin Hoffmann, 89, of Warne, NC who passed away on Thursday, February 15, 2024 in a Gainesville, Georgia hospital surrounded by his loving wife of sixty-three years and his three daughters. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 25, 1934 to Martin Hoffmann, Sr. and Martha Falkenstein Hoffmann. He was very proud of being a first generation American. He graduated from Saint Ignatius High School and John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. While in college he participated in ROTC and upon graduation entered the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant serving for twelve years and achieving the rank of Captain. He and his family were stationed in various bases in the United States and overseas.
After leaving the Army, he took a position as fleet manager and later worked in Emergency Management with the State of Wisconsin for a total of twenty-seven years and later worked with FEMA.
Upon retirement he and his wife, Wanda, moved to Warne, NC to be near their daughters. In this phase of life he enjoyed spending time with his seven young grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda West Hoffmann; daughters Maureen McClure (David) of Warne, NC; Ellen Roberts (Martin) of Jefferson, GA; and Nancy Coppenbarger (Casey) of Asheville, NC. Grandchildren include: Andrew and Matthew McClure; Erin, Wil and Sarah Roberts; Nate and Cole Coppenbarger and a sister, Marlene Hoffmann of Catskills, NY.
A visitation (10:30-11:30 am) followed by a celebration of life at 11:30 A.M., taking place on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Warne, NC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of your choice.
