Nora Walker

Obituary Date: Thursday, February 8, 2024

Nora Walker was born on April 27, 1939 in Linden Alabama to the late Leonard McNeal Sr and the late Mary Adams McNeal

She was raised in Linden, AL and educated in the Marengo County school system.

Nora was the youngest of six children, all preceding her in death:

Leonard McNeal Jr, AL; Louise Franklin, GA; Joseph McNeal, NY; Cecil McNeal, NY

and Sylvester Marie Thomson, AL.

In her youth, She loved reminding family that she was the baby, especially, her sister-in law, Ophelia (Leonard Jr), because she enjoyed following them around as a kid.

Even in her later years, she continued to remind the family that she was still the baby and she enjoyed it.

Nora shared a bond with her beloved husband, the late Rosell “Russell” Walker, a kind and loving man who served in the military. Their union stood as a testament to the enduring power of love, navigating life's joys and challenges together until his passing on in 2004.

In her youth, Nora confessed Christ as her Savior and joined First Baptist Church in Linden, AL.

Later, while she and her husband lived in Brunson, SC, her church home became Mount Carmel Holiness Church, where she was a devoted member.

During her senior years, when Nora expressed her desire to move to Georgia near her nieces and nephews, she found great support and assistance, particularly from her niece, Keyba, who played a pivotal role in helping her relocate to Gainesville.

Known for her vibrant spirit and personality, Nora embraced life with open arms and made lifelong friends everywhere she went. She enjoyed keeping her mind sharp by solving jigsaw puzzles and puzzle books. Her love for fun, laughter, and dance, will forever remain cherished memories for those who had the privilege of sharing in her joy.

On February 8, 2024, Nora peacefully departed this life at her Gainesville home. She gained her wings while resting in her bed, surrounded by her loving family.

Also preceding her in death; Daughter, Jacqueline Brown and Grandson, Phillip Brown, both of South Carolina.

She leaves to cherish her memories:

1 Sister-in-Law, Ophelia McNeal -AL ; 4 Grandchildren: Shawntel Monique (Darius) Register- NC, Armane Brown- NC, Sherrita (Joseph) Brown- SC, Marie Brown- SC; 9 Great-Grandchildren: Antonio (Clarissa) Keller-FL, Whitney James-NC, Khadijah James-NC, Secoyia James-TX, Kitana Brown, Lyric Bing, Cerenitti Wiliams, Syrenyty Long and Levi Long, all of SC; 13 Great-Great Grandchildren.

Georgia Family; Nieces: Lillie "Von" Rucker, Keyba (Neko) Brown-GA, Johnesia (Otavius) Whitehead-GA, Kolisha Robertson-TX, Serenity Franklin-GA, A'Riyah Lonon McNeal-GA, Nephews: Chyris McNeal (Jessica) -GA, Karson Robertson-TX and Keegan Brown-GA,

Nora also leaves a host of other dear family and friends in multiple states ranging from Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, up to New York. Additionally, she will be greatly missed by her extended family in Love, the Brunsons, for whom she was the dedicated caregiver to children, Amelia and Virginia.

Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Hillside Chapel at 2:00 PM. A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Hillside Chapel between the hours of 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Professional Services Entrusted to Wimberly Funeral Home.
