Dorothy Mary Roberts Lamb, age 96 passed away peacefully in Blairsville Sunday, February 4,2024.
Dorothy was born January 13, 1928, in Seattle, Washington. After graduating from the University of Washington, she accepted a position with the State Department. She was posted to the American Embassy in Amman, Jordan where she met and married her husband, Jim.
Born to a family of educators, Dorothy began her teaching career in the Hall County School system in the 1960’s. She had a lifelong love of reading and strived to instill that in her students. Always a devoted believer in the value of academic achievement, Dorothy earned her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Georgia in 1974 and continued teaching until the mid 1980’s.
In retirement, she and Jim enjoyed sailing on Lake Lanier and traveling. Above all else, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially her three beloved grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, James C. Lamb, Jr and daughter Debbie (Kenny) Hughes.
Survivors include her son, Jim Lamb, daughters, Mary (Dean) Discher and Cindy (Tim) Garrison, granddaughters, Jessica (Scott) Bender, and Dori (Lee) Palmer, grandson, Sam (Lauren) Garrison and great grandsons, Chase, Corbin, and Emett Bender and Levi and Logan Palmer.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the extraordinary community of friends, caregivers, and other staff at Stonehenge Senior Living and to Pruitt Hospice for Dorothy’s loving and compassionate care.
Burial will take place at a later date at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Donations may be made to a favorite charity in Dorothy’s memory.
