Ben W. Ash, Jr., of Gainesville passed away Friday February 2, 2024, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Gainesville.
Ben was born on April 25, 1943, in Dahlonega, Georgia to Ben, Sr.,and Era Wilkins Ash. He owned and operated Ben's Paint and Body Shop for 33 years in Gainesville. He was well respected in the body shop field and made many friends over the years. Ben also managed and played lead guitar in several bands, playing all over Hall and surrounding counties, the last and most successful was Shiloh. he loved landscaping, especially working with flowers. Ben earned his pilot's license at the age of 37. This was one of his proudest accomplishments and he delighted in flying friends all over North Georgia. Ben was of the Baptist faith and served in the United States Army.
Ben is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Barbara Anderson, brothers, Ford M. Ash, Sr., and Dr. Wade Ash.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Alice. His adored daughter Karen, her husband Lee Chapman and beloved granddaughter Haley and husband Micah Shue and great granddaughters, Oaklee Wren Shue and Bentley Kay Shue, and beloved grandson, Hayden Chapman, sisters-in-law, Martha (Boots) Ash, Marie Ash, Elizabeth Anderson, Darlene Taylor Gilstrap, Betty Martin, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday February 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Chris Thompson will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Emory Eye Center for Research in memory of Mr. Ash.
