Mr. Cammie A. Cantrell, age 89, of Dahlonega, passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2024. He was born on Lynch Mountain in Sautee-Nacoochee on October 13, 1934, to Will A. and Leila Cantrell. A dedicated and hardworking man, Mr. Cantrell's journey through life was marked by his unwavering commitment to family, his strong work ethic, and his passion for the simple joys that brought him happiness.
In the early years of his life, hard work for Mr. Cantrell began in the sawmill, where he tirelessly sawed and offloaded lumber. In 1962, he embarked on a career with Dahlonega Equipment and Sales, working alongside his brother-in-law. Subsequently, he spent several years at Pinetree (Burlington Industries), but the allure of the sawmill and the smell of fresh-cut timber called him back. He eventually retired at his beloved Dahlonega Pallet Mill.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Mr. Cantrell was an avid NASCAR and Georgia Bulldog fan. However, his greatest passion lay in supporting his grandchildren in whatever sport they played, always standing close by as their biggest fan.
Mr. Cantrell is now reunited with his beloved wife, Patricia, who preceded him in death. He is also preceded by his parents, Will A. and Leila Cantrell, grandson Cullen Branch, sister Gertrude Avery, brother Charles Cantrell, and sister Ann Rainwater.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Nicki Chester (Gary) of Dahlonega, Dee Cantrell of Dothan, AL, and Camille Cantrell of Dahlonega. His grandchildren, Wren Cook (Jason), Ryan Garmon (Jenna), and Brittani Abercrombie (Jeremy), will fondly remember their grandfather, as will his great-grandchildren Noah Cook, Eliza Cook, and Carson Abercrombie. Mr. Cantrell is also survived by his brother, James Cantrell, sister Billie Cantrell, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services to celebrate Mr. Cantrell's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate, and interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with the Rev. Stacy Avery officiating.
