Alfred "Al" J. Campbell, Jr., aged 68, passed away on January 26th, 2024, at his home in Braselton. After a long, hard-fought battle with cancer, he is now at rest.
Born in Atlanta on August 29, 1955, to Mildred King Campbell and Alfred "Scooter" J. Campbell, Sr. He grew up in the Decatur area and was a 1973 graduate of Decatur High School. The son of hardworking, family-focused parents, Al learned the value of dedication and hard work at a very young age. These were attributes that shaped him into the man he was to become, and that he continued to be throughout his personal and professional life.
Al recently retired from Georgia Cable after serving in the industry for 41 years. During his tenure, he made numerous friends and earned the respect of his colleagues.
Al is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 32 years, Charlotte Carson Campbell, who supported and cared for him unconditionally during their marriage, illness, and his final days. He also leaves behind his beloved sons Ryan Shoemaker of Oneida, TN, and Christopher Campbell (Carisa), and grandson, Brantley Campbell of Virginia Beach, VA. Siblings include sisters, Jenny Cantrell (Bruce) of Conyers and Cathy Comer (John) of Lilburn; sister-in-laws Sherry Carson of Oneida, TN, and Jennifer Stonecipher (Kares) of Robbins, TN, and brother-in-law Mickey Carson of Oneida, TN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; Kristen Comer Chase (Jonathan), John Comer, III, Hannah Comer, Rebecca Cantrell Hanik, Eric Cantrell, Adrian Stonecipher (Leandra), Joni Stonecipher Byrd (Wade), and Logan Stonecipher (Chelsea), and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Al also held close to his heart, Stephen and Jennifer Stefanini of Toccoa, and their children, Ashton and Ayden, whom he considered his adopted family.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Mildred King Campbell and Alfred J. Campbell, Sr. of Decatur; mother-in-law and father-in-law Dean and Earl Carson of Oneida, TN, and niece, Amy Carson Henry of Oneida, TN.
Al was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who lived life with kindness and consideration for others. He was loved by many, touched the lives of many, and his presence will be greatly missed.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, 2:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Braselton. Rev. Dean King will be officiating. The family will welcome and receive friends one hour prior to the service. Joe and Cathy Grogan, Ernesto and Carmen Lopez, Georgia Cable employees, and fellow cable co-workers will serve as Honorary pallbearers.
