Mrs. Dorothy Cain Chambers, age 98, a cherished resident of Dahlonega, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 28, 2024. Born on May 15, 1925, she was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County, where she witnessed the ebbs and flows of nearly a century.
Dorothy was the daughter of the late Frank and Bessie Ridley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, T.J. Cain Sr. and Thomas Chambers; sisters Fannie Lunsford, Ida Mae Bryant, Evelyn Ridley, and Eva Nell Cain; brother Walter Bud Ridley; as well as grandchildren Scott and his wife Shawna Anderson.
A long-time member of Yahoola Baptist Church, Dorothy was affectionately known as "Granny Dot" to her beloved family. Her life was a testament to faith, love, and enduring strength. Over the years, she experienced the myriad changes of the world with grace and resilience.
Surviving Mrs. Chambers are her daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Al Sykes; son and daughter-in-law T.J. Jr. and Cathy Mae Cain; grandchildren Trent and Missy Cain; great-grandchildren Emily and Cody Miller; great-grandson Samuel Miller, and the eagerly anticipated arrival of a great-granddaughter, Zoey Dot Miller. Dorothy is also survived by her sister, Frances Cain, all of Dahlonega.
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Dorothy Cain Chambers are scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Yahoola Baptist Church. The Rev. Kris Butler, the Rev. Lyman Caldwell, and the Rev. Terry Head will officiate the ceremony. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, where she will rest among the beautiful surroundings she cherished. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
