Evans Funeral Home of Jefferson announces the death of Mr. Samuel Howard Garris, Sr., age 77 of Gainesville, Georgia who entered rest Sunday, January 21, 2024 surrounded by his loving children. Mr. Garris was born in Hampton, Georgia a son of the late Fred Lafayette Garris and the late Paula Mae Price Garris. Mr. Garris was a member of Pond Fork Baptist Church, loved Atlanta Braves Baseball, never met a stranger, and loved to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed playing Volleyball, doing Tai Chi and Bingo with his friends at Smoky Springs. Mr. Garris was a retired Adjustor for Mead Westvaco Envelope Division. In addition to his parents, Mr. Garris is preceded in death by five sisters, Dela Mae Brown, Blanche King, Freddie Chandler, Sarah Norman and Barbara Ross.
Survivors include a son, Sammy Garris, Jr. (Jeriann) of Buford, three daughters, Tina Peters (Greg) of Sharpsburg, Michelle Dawson (Michael) of Danielsville, and Stacey Bailey (Carey) of Hoschton. Brother, Mike Garris of Comer, sister, Lucille Shillady of Doylestow, Pennsylvania. Eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 25, 2024 from the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Johnny Knight and Reverend Larry Watkins officiating with burial to follow in Evans Memory Gardens. Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are Tyler Bailey, Andrew Dudley, Jonah Garris, Kevin Paquette, Jack Haughawout, Shane Dawson, Seth Dawson and Jacob Loggins. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Evans Funeral Home.
