James Allen Dees Sr.

Obituary Date: Saturday, January 6, 2024

James Allen Dees Sr. age 90 passed away from natural causes on January 6, 2024.  Born in Panama City, Florida on September 5, 1933, he graduated high school from Georgia Military Academy in College Park, Georgia in 1951.  He then received his Bachelor of Science in Education from Henderson State University in Arkansas in 1958. He also played football at Southwestern College (now Rhodes College) in Memphis, TN.

 

James was a Presbyterian Elder, church choir member and lifelong servant of the church. He was also a member of Gideons International for nearly 60 years and once chaired the state of Florida’s chapter. The organization is charted with making the Word of God available to everyone through the free distribution of bibles throughout the country.

 

James worked for over 30 years for the International Paper Company, retiring as one of the plant’s managers in its Vicksburg, MS location in 1992.

 

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, and time with his dogs with many loyal companions through the years, none more beloved than his final pup Angie.

 

James was proceeded in death by his wife of 64 years Patsy White Dees in April 2020, his granddaughter Rachel Heffner in Jan 2003 and his parents Alfred James Dees and Alice Lillian Dees.

 

He is survived by his children James Allen Dees Jr, Laura Elaine Dees, Julia Dees Majewski (Greg), and Daniel Zane Dees (Anghaarad Teague). Also, his grandchildren Kenneth Heffner, James Sanderson, Johnathon Sanderson, Madelyn Majewski, and Ashely Majewski.

 

A Celebration of Jame’s life will be held at Celebration Church on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at 2pm at 5560 Thompson Mill Road, Hoschton, GA. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Gideon International on James’ behalf.
