Mr. James Doyle Abercrombie, age 74, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. James, born on April 26, 1949, in Dahlonega, GA, was the son of the late Hubert and Estelle Abercrombie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Abercrombie.
James's remarkable work ethic began at 16 when he joined Pinetree (Burlington Industries), where he dedicated an astounding forty-two years of service, never missing a day. His commitment and diligence continued until the plant's closure in 2006.
A devoted family man, James found joy in watching shows with his boys, sharing his love for wrestling and Westerns. His enthusiasm for NASCAR led him to be an avid supporter of his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, whom he had the privilege of meeting in person. To his beloved grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Popi," while his three boys cherished him as Dad, Coach, and best friend.
James is survived by his sons Jamey Abercrombie (Jodi), Justin Abercrombie, and Jason Abercrombie, all of Gainesville. His legacy extends to his grandchildren Madison Abercrombie, Anna Thompson (Cody), Kiara Abercrombie, Peyton Abercrombie, Ansley Abercrombie, Merrida Abercrombie, Makayla Lee (Alston), Hailey Drum (Jack), and Madelyn Abercrombie. The great-grandchildren, Denver Thompson, Sawyer Thompson, Braxton Broadhead, Brynn Lee, Kayson Drum, and Kayden Drum, will carry forward his memory. He is also survived by his brothers Danny Abercrombie (Brenda) of Dawsonville and Mark Abercrombie of Gainesville.
Funeral services to celebrate James's life are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Monday, January 22, 2024, at the chapel of Anderson-Underwood Funeral Home. The Reverend Chris Anderson will officiate, and interment will follow in Dahlonega Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
