Sharon “Diane” G. Bankston

Mrs. Sharon “Diane” G. Bankston of Sugar Hill, passed away with her family by her side on January 13, 2024. Diane was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on January 5, 1947.  She retired from the Social Security Administration after 42 years of loyal service, where she was a claims representative. Following her retirement, Diane was a volunteer at Eastside Medical Center in the gift shop for eight years.

Diane was known for her tenacious spirit and for being a strong supporter of her family. She was an avid reader and loved traveling. While her sons were in high school, she was a “band mom” for seven years, creating many memories, and lifelong friendships. She recently completed a bucket list visit to New England with her sons and future daughter-in-law. Diane treasured her relationships with friends and always brightened a room with her smile and filled it full of love and laughter. Her love for animals was strong and she always had a cat or dog on her lap while at home.

Mrs. Bankston was preceded in death by her mother, Sarah Betty Leavell.  Diane is survived by her husband of 54 years, Patrick Bankston, and brother Craig Leavell. Additionally, Diane leaves behind her beloved children Bryan (fiancée Brandi) Bankston, Glenn (fiancée Megan) Bankston and “adopted daughter” Rachel McDaniel. She took great pride in her grandchildren Oliviah, Tyler, Zachary (fiancée Cierra), Sean, and Cierra, and great-granddaughter Emma.

The family looks forward to remembering the fond memories of Diane Bankston and will receive friends during a visitation on Saturday, January 20, 2024, from 4-8pm at Flanigan Funeral Home & Crematory in Buford, Georgia.  A celebration of her life will be held at a later time, please contact a family member for those details. To honor her giving nature, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity in memory of Diane Bankston.
