On January 9, 2024, the world grew a little dimmer when Charles Leo Laughinghouse departed this life for Heaven. Born on August 12, 1941, in Columbia, South Carolina, Charlie was the standard-bearer of the Laughinghouse name for 82 years, radiating joy with his mischievous grin and cheeky, twinkly-eyed good humor.
Charlie was an intelligent and innovative man, earning a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked on the circuits used in the TV camera which flew with the Apollo 11 astronauts on the first moon landing, and he held seven patents, including one that—just like you see in the movies—he sketched on a napkin over lunch. He was also keenly interested in his community, serving on the Forsyth County Commission from 2003-2010, including three years as its Chairman.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 61 years, Becky; his daughter, Amy, and her husband Scott; his granddaughter, Kristin Peters and her husband, James; his grandson Chris Carter and his wife Brandi; and his great-grandson, Wyatt Peters. He is pre-deceased by his beloved daughter, Kimberly Noel, and his parents, Margaret and Charles.
We invite family and friends to share in the celebration of Charlie’s life. The visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at 12:00 pm at McDonald & Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, Georgia, 30040, 770-886-9899. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 2:00 pm.
In celebrating Charles' legacy, we encourage everyone to leave memories and upload photos to his memorial page at Mcdonaldandson.com.
