Mr. Stephen G. McMichael, age 77, of Braselton, passed on January 4, 2024 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Gainesville, surrounded by his family.
Steve was born on September 07, 1946 to the late Stephen F. & Emerine Jackson McMichael in Atlanta. He attended the University of Georgia. Majoring in marketing and minoring in finance. He graduated in 1968 with a business degree. He served in the U.S. Army as a specialist fifth class, in the 26th Infantry Platoon Scout dogs. Steve worked in the candy industry for 43 years. His proudest achievements in the industry were winning the Doc Reed Silver Candy Dish in 2000 and being inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame in 2003.
Steve had many interest in his life. He was passionate about cars, fishing, boating, auto racing and most of all Georgia Bulldog football. Steve owned many cars in his life. His favorite being his Corvettes. He casted many a line on any body of water that he could find. Whether it was on the Lake Minnetonka, Illinois River or Lake Lanier, being on the boat was always his happy place. Auto racing was always a part of his life. He enjoyed NASCAR, Indy Car and drag racing. He spent many Saturdays watching his Georgia Bulldogs. Win or lose he would yell “How ‘Bout Them Dawgs”. Enjoying of all of these things with his family was his true passion.
You could write a book on why and how Steve was such a wonderful person, husband, father and friend. He brought so much love and laughter to so many. He was a loving husband to his wife Bobbie for 51 years and a supportive mentor to his 2 sons Stephen and Andrew. Everyone who called Steve a friend would tell you how kindhearted, generous, loyal, and dedicated of a friend he was. He had an infectious personality the drew people to him. He could connect to anyone at any time. Steve touched so many.
Steve is survived by his wife, Bobbie McMichael; sons, Stephen W. (Sarah) McMichael and Andrew McMichael; 4 grandchildren, Wyatt, Colby, Kyle, Maliah; and sisters, Emerine Sweeney and Elaine Taylor. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Elizabeth Stacy.
Memorial Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Winder First United Methodist Church 280 N Broad St. Winder, Ga 30680. Dr. Jeff Murphy will officiate. A reception will follow the service at the church. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024 at Memorial Park Braselton Funeral Home.
