Chester J. Doles Sr., age 84, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away on January 6, 2024. He was born in Smithers, West Virginia, to the late Woodrow Doles and the late Lena Flint Doles. In addition to his parents, Chester was preceded in death by his two brothers, Woodrow Doles Jr. and Charles "Chuck" Doles.
The three brothers witnessed their family's struggles in the West Virginia Coal Mines, where they worked tirelessly and tragically succumbed to black lung disease in their 50s. Determined to avoid a similar fate, Chester and his brothers left West Virginia and found employment at General Motors.
Chester was not only a hard worker but also a skilled martial artist, holding a black belt in Isshinryu Karate. He shared his passion for martial arts by teaching youth classes in Maryland during his time there. An avid outdoorsman, Chester preferred the simplicity of nature over lavish accommodations. He cherished his family deeply and expressed his love through actions rather than words.
Chester is survived by his son, Chester Doles Jr., of Dahlonega; his brother and sister, David and Diana Doles of West Virginia; grandchildren Niki Bailey of Galena, MD, Jessica Golt of Dover, DE, Candy Doles of Gainesville, GA, James Doles, Ashley Doles, and Katelyn Doles of Elkton, MD and Zane Doles, Pierce Doles, and Aryana Doles of Dahlonega, GA; he is also survived by 37 great-grandchildren. In accordance with his wishes, Chester will be cremated, and no public services are planned at this time.
