Annie, “Big Mama” as she was known to many, was born on January 20th, 1932, on a farm in Oglethorpe County, Georgia to the late Mack and Emma (Dowdy) Watkins. She was a lifelong resident of
Gainesville, Georgia where she had family, and many friends whom she loved dearly. In 1954 she married the love of her life Lyman Williams Sr. and together they raised six beautiful children, and three Bonus Children. Annie’s family was a big, and very important part of her life.
Annie accepted Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church where she served on the usher board for many years. Annie had a deep love for Christ, family, friends,
community, and her church family. She served as a Deaconess and was truly committed to cooking in the church kitchen making good old fashion southern soul food meals.

She was formerly employed at Johnson High School where she was known for her beautiful smile, and delicious cooking. She was very dedicated. Some would call it work, but for Annie it was a passion for cooking. Big Mama loved big gatherings with family and friends with big spreads of food. Listening to her favorite song by James Brown “PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE”.  Where the house would be filled with laughter, singing, and dancing.
