Virginia "Pauline" Palmer Shamblin

Virginia “Pauline” Palmer Shamblin, 92, of Cumming passed away December 29, 2023 at Lanier Village Senior Living.

Pauline was born September 23, 1931, in Gaylesville, Alabama to the late James “Hubert” Palmer and the late Mildred Lee (Barkley) Palmer.  While still a young girl, they moved to Summerville, Georgia, where Pauline attended school and graduated from Summerville High School.

Throughout her life, Pauline was always very active in service in her church, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir for many years, teaching in the Girls in Action (GA’s) program for teen girls, and various committees.

Pauline was married to the late Hugh Burnett Shamblin for almost 70 years, from July 3, 1949, until his passing April 19, 2019.

Pauline worked as a beautician for almost 12 years prior to their son being born in 1961.  She later worked at the Nash & Walker law firm in Oneonta, Alabama for 20 years, retiring in 1997 and moving to Rome, GA.

In 2016, Pauline and Hugh moved to Lanier Village Senior Living home in Cumming, GA.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn Jeanette (Palmer) Ragland and Lee Douglas Ragland.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Greggory (Gregg) Shamblin and Terri Towns Shamblin; two grandchildren, Katherine Shamblin and Robert Shamblin; sister and brother-in-law, Jimmie Lee (Palmer) Burdett and Winston R. Burdett; two nieces, Lee Ann Ragland and Kimberly Pauline (Ragland) Ross, and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, January 2, 2023 in the chapel at Flanigan Funeral Home, Buford, GA, with Dr. Jeff Jackson officiating.  Visitation will be at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 pm on Tuesday.
