Gerald (Jerry) Raymond Martin

Gerald (Jerry) Raymond Martin, 84, of Suwanee, GA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, after a long illness. Mr. Martin was born in Long Island, NY, to Andrew and Evelyn Martin and graduated from C.W. Post College (Long Island University) in NY. He worked for 28 years for Pan American World Airways and for 7 years with Delta Air Lines. With PanAm he served as station manager in many countries throughout the world, including Turkey, Nigeria, Iran, India, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas. A die-hard fan of the NY Mets, he also loved gardening and boating—always wearing a sunhat—and coin collecting.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Irma Ríos Martin, with whom he traveled the world; their son, Andrew David Martin of Buford, GA, and grandchildren Charlotte and Lucas Martin. He is also survived by his sisters Frances Miller of Yorktown, VA, and Evelyn Suzanne Haake of Valrico, FL, and his brother-in-law James Haake; nieces Nilka (Dan) Ríos Burrows of Suwanee, GA, Dawn (Robert) Hill of Lithia, FL, and Nancy (Chadwick) Walter, of Brooksville, FL; and nephews Juan E. (Suzanne) Ríos, Jr., of Columbus, OH, Chad Miller, of Newport News, VA, and Brian (Candice) Miller of Yorktown, VA. Several great-nieces and great-nephews and other relatives also survive.  

The family would like to thank the dedicated staff at Benton House of Sugar Hill and Capstone Hospice for their tender, loving care of Jerry in the last weeks of his life.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 6439 Spout Springs Rd, Flowery Branch, GA 30542. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org. Condolences may be shared at Flanigan Funeral Home, flaniganfuneralhome.com.
