Bill Chester, 87, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at his residence following a sudden illness.
Born February 18, 1936 to the late Joe and Florence Chester, Bill was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. He was a member of Goshen Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon. A 1953 graduate of Dawson County High School, Bill was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Korea. Following his military service he spent a few years cutting timber before beginning a career in the poultry industry where he worked for over 50 years until his retirement in 2012. He also served on the Dawson County Board of Education and as the President of Dawson County Park and Recreation’s little league program. A loving and devoted husband and father, Bill was a devout Christian who was preceded in death by his grandson, Jake Fausett and sister, Lavain Holtzclaw.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years, Hilda Chester of Dawsonville; daughter, Roxanne Howard (Kenny) of Dawsonville; son, Stuart Chester (Jessica) of Buford; grandchildren, Zachery Fausett, Ryan Chester ( Jelena), David Chester, Laura Parrish (Zack), Sarah Moore, Abbey Moore; great-grandchild, Lyla Parrish; brother, Junior Chester of Dawsonville; sister, Joyce Arrendale (Cecil) of Dahlonega, other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Russell Burt and Rev. Andy Wallace will officiate. Interment will follow in Goshen Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, December 15 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 noon until the service hour.
