Shirley Whelchel McKibbons

Shirley Whelchel McKibbons was born on February 12, 1940.  She was a faithful servant of God with a gentle and quiet spirit.  Her big smile could light up a room.  Shirley departed this life on November 21, 2023 at Avalon Health and Rehab Newman, GA. at the age of 83.

Shirley grew up in the Hickory Grove community located in Lumpkin County, GA.  Her elementary years was spent at the Hickory Grove Church School.  She then attended Fair Street High School, Gainesville, GA. where she graduated in 1958.  Shirley moved to Atlanta GA. and was employed at AT&T for more than 30 years.  She was a loving wife and First Lady who faithfully supported her husband in the ministry at Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church in Calhoun GA.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Joseph McKibbons, her parents Grady and Maybelle Whelchel her sister’s Eva Mae Earls, Zeldia Mae Earls and Virginia Elrod.

She is survived by her brother Claude Whelchel.  She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, family and friends.

His Lord said unto him, well done, good and faithful servant; thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things; enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.  Matthew 25:23.
