Johan Edmond Lioen

Mr. Johan Edmond Lioen, age 98, of Murrayville, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2023.

Mr. Lioen was born June 17, 1925 in Axel, Holland.  He served with the Dutch Army, attaining the rank of Sargent, and fought alongside his counterparts in the Battle of the Bulge against the German forces. He later served in Indonesia in a peace keeping mission with the Dutch Army Red Berets.

Mr. Lioen was preceded in death by his wife, Maria Theresia Lioen.  He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Barry Grizzel, Murrayville; son, Albert Lioen, Goldsboro, NC; sons and daughters-in-law, Edmond and Anita Lioen, Lexington, NC and Lindsay and Shari Lioen, Tampa, FL; and many other relatives.  

A funeral mass is scheduled for 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church. Father Fabio Alvarez will officiate. Interment will follow at Yonah View Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:45 PM Wednesday at the funeral home prior to the funeral mass at the church.
