It is with great sadness that the family of John Bradford York, age 62 of 3405 W. Currahee St. Toccoa, Georgia announce his passing Thursday, November 30, 2023.
An only son of the late Bill York and the late Irene Young York of Toccoa, Georgia, Brad York was born November 14, 1961 in Stephens County. He graduated from Stephens County High School in 1979. Brad married his loving wife, Gloria Flanagan York in 1987 and was blessed with two step children whom he loved dearly, Renee York of Cornelia, Georgia and Richard York (Shannon) of Morganton, Georgia. Brad is also survived by five grandchildren as well as aunts, uncles and close friends.
Brad York was a cherished soul whose wisdom and kindness touched the hearts of all who knew him. He owned his own towing and auto care business, had a career as Captain at Lee Arrendale State Prison, Captain at Regional Youth Detention Center in Gainesville and a probation officer with Department of Juvenile Justice. He retired from the State in 2021. Brad had a passion for racing. This passion began at a young age because of his dad’s love for racing. Brad secured numerous victories throughout his racing career. He was also Track Promotor at Toccoa Speedway and Race Director at Lavonia Speedway. His commitment to excellence and sportsmanship earned him the respect and admiration of fellow competitors and fans alike. Brad was recently inducted into the Lavonia Speedway Hall of Fame. Off the track, Brad was a simple man whose humility and approachability endeared him to all who crossed his path. Brad was a devoted husband and a loyal friend. His infectious enthusiasm left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him best. His legacy lives on through the lasting impact he made on family, friends, and community.
Funeral service to celebrate his life and legacy will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023 at 3 p.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home, 90 Pond Street, Toccoa, Georgia with The Reverend Brandon Crunkleton and The Reverend Stacy Penland officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Steve Massey, Ricky Cobb, Randy Collins, Ted Crunkleton, Casey Roberts, Kevin McCuen, Chuck Kelly and Parker Herring.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 12 p.m. until the service time, 3 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mr. John Bradford York.
