Margaret Louise Vaughan, known as Peggy, 86, of Cumming, Georgia passed away peacefully in her sleep with her loving family by her side on November 27, 2023 at Towne Club Windermere with hospice care. Peggy was born on October 29, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Albert and Margaret Sobditch Mattes and had one brother, the late Donald A. Mattes.
Peggy graduated from Dominican High School in Detroit and later earned her nursing degree in Dayton Ohio.
Though she loved her work as a nurse, Peggy‘s most cherished accomplishment was to be a mother to her three children and a wife to her loving husband, George, to whom she was married 66 years.
Peggy had a passion for people and did volunteer work with hospice patients. She touched many lives with her kindness and compassion for others.
She was a talented vocalist and was a member of the Gem City Sweet Adelines. Peggy’s chorus won the international championship in 1991 when they received a gold medal in which she was extremely proud. She also sang in the church choir at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Troy, Ohio.
Peggy is survived by her husband, George Edward Vaughan and her three children; son, James Vaughan and wife Melissa, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; daughter, Diana Vaughan Konkle and husband Mitchel, of Milton, Georgia; and daughter, Katherine Vaughan Schwab and husband Thomas of Dacula, Georgia.
Peggy’s grandchildren include; Anna Vaughan Lowers, Curren Vaughan, Stephanie Konkle Caligiuri, Mitchel Konkle II, Ansley Konkle, Alexa Schwab and Lydia Schwab.
Peggy’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Northside Hospital Forsyth, Amedysis
Hospice care and Towne Club Windermere who were so helpful and compassionate during Peggy’s illness.
Her family will hold a private celebration of her life in Venice, Florida, where she and George spent their retirement years.
