Eugene (Gene) Patrick Capasse, age 92, of Buford, GA passed away peacefully Sunday, November 19, 2023, surrounded by family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine (Catino), his parents, Eugene and Anna (Lopiano), and his brother, Robert, and sister, Rosemarie.
Gene was born on March 31, 1931 in Saugatuck, CT. He was raised in Stamford, CT, and met his wife Lorraine while attending Stamford High School. They married in 1951, then Gene served with the Army in the Korean War from 1953-1954, after which they raised their five children in Stamford before moving to Stratford, CT, and then on to Palm Coast, FL in 1999. He and Lorraine had been married for 68 wonderful years when she passed away in 2019. Afterward, Gene split his time living with his son Jon and his wife, in Buford, GA, and daughter Patti and her family, in Trumbull, CT.
Gene was a printer by trade and worked with various companies in CT until his retirement in early 1999. He and Lorraine loved to vacation in Florida and spend long weekends attending the horse races in Saratoga, NY. Once retired and living in FL, they enjoyed taking cruises with close friends and family, and traveling to see their children.
Gene was also an avid golfer who taught the game to his children, as well as other family members and friends. Everyone remembers his instruction to “Hit down on it”! He also convinced Lorraine to take up the game in her 70’s, and the two of them enjoyed playing together in retirement. His sons were inspired to create an annual golf tournament and family reunion, which took place for 20 consecutive years. Members of the winning team received the “Eugene P. Capasse First Place” trophy.
