Mrs. Barbara Lynn Taylor Hallford, age 87 of Toccoa, Georgia passed away Saturday afternoon, November 25, 2023, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.
A daughter of the late John Harris Taylor and Irene Hemphill Taylor, Barbara was the youngest of twelve children. She was born on February 21, 1936, in Franklin County Georgia and was a graduate of Franklin County High School in 1955. Barbara lived most of her adult life in Stephens County. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Charlie Marvin Taylor, Ezma Taylor (John Cohen), Johnnie Sue Smith (Fred), Mary Smith (Oscar), Bill Taylor (Dessie), Sarah Neal Moseley, (Furman), Joella Coker (Colin), Laura Taylor, Jack Taylor (Mary Ann), Doris Wynens (Carl), and Polly Seawright (Ryan).
Barbara was a beloved mother and grandmother, a respected businessowner and Christian. She and her husband, Maurice “Shready” Hallford, owned and operated The Rebel Café for thirty-seven years in downtown Toccoa before retiring in 1997. They were well known in Toccoa for their exceptional homemade food and their entertaining hospitality. Barbara was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Toccoa and a member of “Journey,” a ladies Sunday School class for many years. In addition to her parents and siblings, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice. After his death in 2009, she also volunteered as office help for the First Baptist Church of Toccoa for several years.
Survivors include a son, John Christopher Hallford, of Dahlonega, daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia Lynn and Kerry M. Bray, of Macon, grandchildren, Matthew Tyler Bray and Erin Christina Bray of Macon; Sister-in-Law, Mary Ann Taylor, of Toccoa; Brother-in-Law, Thomas Hallford (Wynette) of Loganville, Georgia and Sister-in-Law, Elizabeth Hallford Ward of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 30, 2023, 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Toccoa with the Reverend Brett Sanders and the Reverend David Ritcey officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Thomas Hartley, James Taylor, Alex Smith, Jonathon Taylor, Jacob Taylor and Jack Wasserman.
The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday, 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Toccoa, 475 E. Tugalo Street, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in memory of Mrs. Barbara Lynn Taylor Hallford.
Interment will follow in Roselane Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Barbara Lynn Taylor Hallford.
