Wendell Stovall (Doc) Perry

Wendell Stovall (Doc) Perry, of Gainesville, Georgia, entered into rest on Sunday, November 19, 2023. 

Born August 20, 1940, in Jackson County Georgia to Manolia Brown and Oliver Carlton Perry. Mr. Perry was a 1958 graduate of Commerce High School.  On April 5, 1962, Doc married the love of his life, Marie Wood Perry, and they made Gainesville their home for over 61 years.  He was retired from R&R Welding.  Wendell loved watching the Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldog football, and NASCAR.  He was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, a member of the Adam and Eve Sunday School Class, and a member of the Sanctuary Choir.  Wendell loved Southern Gospel music and sang with the Lanierland Quartet for many years. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Sarah Jo, Clara and Henry; in-laws Alma Short and Joe Brown Wood; and infant daughter Dell Marie Perry. 

Wendell is survived by his wife, Marie and two daughters, Lee Anne (Dan) McGill of North Augusta, SC  and Susan (Ted) Hughes of Maryville, TN; Grandchildren Kelsey, Cooper, Cassidy, and Alan; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Carolyn Perry of Commerce and sisters-in-law Barbara (Bruce) Adams of Chamblee and Carolyn Hayes of Sautee and several nieces and nephews. 

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 25, at Lakewood Baptist Church, 2235 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, GA.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church foyer.  The family asks that members of The Adam and Eve Sunday School Class serve as honorary pallbearers. Officiating will be Dr. Tyler Smiley, Dr. Tom Smiley, Reverend Don and Elizabeth Ormsbee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Wendell Perry’s memory to Eagle Ranch,  P.O. Box 7200, Chestnut Mountain, GA 30502 or North East Georgia Medical Center Hospice - www.nghs.com/foundation/hospice.  The family would like to thank the Doctors, Nurses and staff of Northeast Georgia Medical Center ICU and Hospice for the exceptional care he received during his final days.
