Freddy "Fred" Lee Furry

Freddy (Fred) Lee Furry, age 80, of Cleveland, passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023.

Fred was born September 28, 1943 to the late James (Jim) and Wilma Furry.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald, and his daughter, Lorraine Chitwood.

Fred was a retired US Navy veteran, serving from 1960-1983; retiring at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.  After retiring from the Navy, he owned Laurel Valley Bakery in Cleveland and managed several retail stores, including the Cornelia K Mart.

Fred was an avid sportsman and fisherman. He also felt privileged to serve in the White County Honor Guard, recognizing his fellow veteran’s sacrifices.

Survivors include his childhood sweetheart and wife of 62 years, Lonie (Burton); daughters, Eva Cooper (Jeff); Stephanie Mason (Rick); Tricia Broskey,  Lauren Furry, and son-in-law, Kelvin Chitwood (Suzanne), 7 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 7 PM at Barrett Funeral Home on Monday, November 6, 2023.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 07, 2023, at Cool Springs United Methodist Church.  The Rev. Steve McIntyre, the Rev. Wayne Smith, and Ms. Niki Knoblett will officiate.  Interment will follow in Cool Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery with full military honors.
