Dan P. Fawaz, 72 of Flowery Branch, Georgia, passed peacefully to his heavenly home, on Monday, October 23, 2023.
Dan was born on October 21, 1951 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife of more than 28 years, Deborah Day Fawaz; four children, Chad Troline (Heather Fitzpatrick), Alexander Fawaz, Graham Troline, and Danielle Elise Fawaz; his mother, Victoria Daghir Engheben; three grandchildren (Monroe, Lennon, and Theodore); two brothers, Scott Fawaz and Ray Engheben (Linda); brother-in-law, David Day (Cindy); and sister-in-law, Shannon Richardson. Dan was predeceased by his father, Edmund Fawaz.
Dan earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of New Hampshire, a Master’s of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a PhD in Psychology from Michigan State University. He was first an Assistant Professor, and then a Full Professor, for 36 years at Georgia State University. Dan touched countless lives over the course of his 36 year teaching career, as an educator, Dean, mentor, colleague, and friend.
Dan was an avid sports enthusiast and a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox. He attended a game at Fenway Park a few months back at the invitation of a dear friend. He didn't just follow sports, he was an active participant. Dan played tennis regularly and was Chair of the Sterling-on-the-Lake Tennis/Pickleball Committee. He ran 29 consecutive Peachtree Road Races, and went to the gym daily.
Dan and Deborah's home is a gathering place for family and friends at the holidays. The family togetherness nourished the participants' spirits and Dan's cooking nourished their bodies. Among Dan's signature dishes were loubieh (a Lebanese green bean and tomato stew), shrimp cocktail with Gran Marnier cocktail sauce, crab stuffed wontons, and an artfully curated and presented charcuterie board.
Dan was also a lifelong student of history and politics, and loved to travel. In recent years, he and Deborah travelled to Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Cancun.
The family will receive friends at Memorial Park South Funeral Home, 4121 Falcon Parkway, Flowery Branch, Georgia from 12:30 - 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 11, 2023. The Memorial Service will be held there at 2:00 pm and the Reverend Sandra Skinner will officiate.
