Beverly "Jean" Ledford Butler, was born on July 13, 1941, in Gainesville, GA, and passed away on October 17, 2023, at the age of 82. She was a longtime resident of Dahlonega, Georgia, and a loving and cherished member of the community. Jean was the embodiment of compassion, generosity, and thoughtful care towards all who knew her. She was a beacon of strength and love, always putting her family first.

Jean dedicated her life to the serving and loving others, first and foremost as a wonderful wife and mother, and also as a teacher for special needs children in the Lumpkin County School systems. Prior to her work in education, she held many different roles at Burlington Industries in Dahlonega.

Jean was a member of the Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she embodied the teachings of Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Jean was the definition of a true southern homemaker, she was a fantastic cook; (her chicken casserole was a favorite of all) and also an incredible gardener. She spent time tending to her flowers later turning them into beautiful arrangements. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing computer games. Her greatest joy though was derived from spending time with her family and spoiling her grandchildren every chance she could.

Jean is preceded by her her parents Frank & Artie Ledford; her mother and father in law, William D. & Loudell Butler; her beloved son Jeffery Butler; and numerous siblings by marriage.

Surviving is her loving husband of 64 years, Richard Butler; her son and daughter in law Ricky & Robin Butler; 2 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, her siblings; Geraldine Herrington, Sylvia (Charles) Stowers, Mildred Castleberry, and brother in law Bennie Brown, and Jimmy Butler. Many nieces, nephews, and friends who loved her sweet, giving, and loving heart also survive.

Visitation will take place on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 3:00 pm at Dahlonega Funeral Home until 8pm, and again on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 12:00 pm with funeral services being held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Dahlonega Funeral Home. Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Wayne McKinney will officiate. Special Music selection will be provided by Sandy Butler. Interment to follow at Mt. Olive Church Cemetery.

We invite you to share your memories and upload photos to Jean's memorial page to celebrate her loving, thoughtful, compassionate, and generous spirit. Her light will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew her.
