Carol Hurst, age 75, of Suwanee, Georgia, passed away on October 18, 2023. She was born on September 28, 1948, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Homer and Ruth Almond. Carol, known for her infectious smile and generous spirit, brightened every room she entered. Her simple beauty and elegant fashion sense were as remarkable as her caring and compassionate nature, which immediately put anyone she met at ease. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, loyal wife of a beloved baseball coach, and passionate advocate for those less fortunate or in need. Carol never met a stranger.
Carol is survived by her son, Daren Painter of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and her daughter, Molly Moore (Billy) of Buford, Georgia. She was also a loving grandmother to Caleb Moore (fiancé’ Caelyn) of Greenville, South Carolina, and Sarah Beth Moore (fiancé Keller Dannenmiller) of Treasure Island, Florida. Carol is also survived by her sister, Patricia Bartlett (Tom) of Jefferson City, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael G. Hurst, her brother, Dean Almond (Brenda) of Falls Church Virginia, and her parents, Homer Almond (Francine) of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Ruth Almond of Batesville, Arkansas.
Carol had a diverse and varied career. She worked as a legal secretary, a social worker with the Arkansas Area Council on Aging, an office building property manager, and in radio and television advertising. In her later years, she dedicated the last 13 years of her working life to serving the senior community in the Reverse Mortgage Industry, in which she became known as one of Georgia's most knowledgeable experts in the field.
Carol worshipped at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church where she found solace and strength in her faith. In her free time, Carol enjoyed singing along to the radio or gospel music and was an avid baseball fan and coach's wife. Carol volunteered with My Sister's House, a shelter for women and children as well as later involvement with Walk to Emmaus.
A memorial service will be held at Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 2:30pm with a reception to immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give a memorial gift to the Hamilton Mill United Methodist Church General Fund. Please designate that your gift is being made in memory of Carol Hurst.
