Gladys “Gran” Murphy Smith

Obituary Date: Monday, October 16, 2023

Mrs. Gladys “Gran” Murphy Smith, 86, of Alto, passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 19, 2023 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Bill Nipper will officiate. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home Wednesday, October 18, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Born on March 7, 1937 in New Holland, GA, she was the daughter of the late Egbert Garland Murphy and Kate Gaddis Murphy.  Mrs. Smith was born and raised for several years in the New Holland Mill Village. She was employed at New Holland Mill for a number of years and was a member of East View Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Smith; brothers, Ernest, Lewis, Clarence and Charlie Murphy and sisters, Lola Mae Burnett and Betty Canup.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter and son in law, Missie and Scott Davidson of Alto; granddaughter and husband, Kadi and Curtis Hodge of Gillsville; grandson and wife, Josh and Brittany Davidson of Alto; brothers, Grady Murphy of Gainesville, Robert Murphy of Chestnut Mountain; grandchildren, Laney, Bristol, Harlow, Jed, Creed; special niece, Gail Millwood and a number of other loving relatives.
