Cecilia Moore Rayburn

Obituary Date: Wednesday, October 11, 2023

Mrs. Cecilia Moore Rayburn, 76, of Gainesville, Georgia, left this world and met her Savior on Wednesday, October 11, 2023.

Cecilia had many roles in her lifetime. She served as an executive secretary in the Georgia Department of Education for many years. She was also a pastor’s wife for 56 years contributing significantly to churches in Vidalia, Rome, Thomaston, Douglasville, and Murrayville. She served as an administrative secretary to different departments of the Georgia District Assemblies of God. But best of all and most of all, she was the wife to John Rayburn and the most gracious and protective mother to Shane and Christopher and the doting grandmother of Trent and Alexis.

Cecilia was a model of hospitality. She enjoyed entertaining and had numerous collections of china for every occasion. She always had just the right stationery for correspondence and taught the importance of handwritten notes to her children. Cecilia was a Christmas enthusiast and loved that time of year when her home would become a wonderland for anyone who stepped in. When someone encountered Cecilia, she had such love and care for them whether a longtime friend or a first-time friend. In her latter days, she was still saying, “You are just beautiful.” to the people she would meet.

Cecilia was born November 21, 1946, in Dublin, Georgia to Cecil and Estelle (Outlaw) Moore who preceded her in her arrival to heaven. No doubt, they were thrilled to greet her.  She was the eldest of six children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Moore (Barbara). She is survived by her husband, John Rayburn of Gainesville, Georgia; her sons Shane (Jennifer) Rayburn of Gainesville, Georgia, and Christopher Rayburn of Gainesville, Georgia; her sisters, Brenda (Willis) Wombles of Wrightsville, Georgia, and Lisa (Marlon) Mimbs of Gainesville, Georgia; her brothers, Dennis (Cindy) Moore of Wrightsville, Georgia, and Victor Moore of Atlanta, Georgia. She adored her two grandchildren Trent and Alexis. She had many nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to The River Community Church in Murrayville, Georgia, where Cecilia served as pastor’s wife for twenty years. She loved people and gifts will be used in that manner. The family would also appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association 41 Perimeter Center E. Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.

The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Riverside Chapel on Saturday, October 14, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a celebration of life service following in the chapel at 2:00 pm.  Interment will be held in Wrightsville, Georgia, where Cecilia grew up. She will be buried in the family plot.
