Mother Henrietta Wimpy Cummings was born June 26, 1937, in Gainesville, GA to the late Henry Wimpy and the late Zealia Martin Wimpy. She was peacefully called home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Deacon David Cummings; her children, Brelinda A. Cheeks Watson, Izealia M. Cheeks Langston, and Tina D. Cheeks Norman; her grandson, Cedric L. Cheeks; and her great grandson, Fredrick D. Cheeks; and her siblings, Cleotis Wimpy Green, Andrew Wimpy, and John Henry Wimpy.
Mother Cummings lived a life focused on being a faithful and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandparent, mother-in-law, and friend. Mostly, she lived a life with a desire to please God. To know her was to respect her and to love her.
She enjoyed working in her flower garden but when she did not have one, she enjoyed blooming plants in pots inside and outside. She truly had a green thumb for growing things and glady shared her experience with others. She enjoyed cooking and having family gatherings. She cherished spending time with her grands. When she was able or felt comfortable, she enjoyed traveling near and far. She used to enjoy watching television until she became exposed to the “iPad” where she had a one-finger upward swipe. She also enjoyed shopping. She enjoyed going out to eat at O’Charley’s Restaurant. Lastly, she enjoyed talking with friends and family on the telephone.
She accepted Christ at an early age by joining the First Baptist Church then 500 Myrtle Street, Gainesville, GA 30501. Later in her life, she joined Greater Timber Ridge Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. L. C. Teasley, Sr. with her husband. She was a faithful member serving as a deaconess, singing in the choir and working with the kitchen committee. Later, she desired to return to her home church, currently at 1810 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd., Gainesville, GA 30501, with her husband’s blessings she did. Under the leadership of the Rev. Isaac Whitehead, Jr., Senior Pastor, Sister Cummings became Mother Cummings. She enjoyed singing in the Music Ministry, being with and talking to the other mothers of the church, attending Wednesday night bible study and Sunday School. She often said, “I love my pastor and my church family”.
Mother Cummings leaves to cherish her memories to her 5 daughters, Janice C. (Grover E.) Young, Dorothy J. Cheeks, Carolyn D. (James) Robinson, Angela C. Bell, Jennifer L. (Jonathan) Robinson; 2 sons, Carl B. Cheeks, Allen K. Cummings; 21 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, and 11 great, great grandchildren.
