Peggy Cantrell Nix

Peggy Cantrell Nix, age 75, of Cleveland, passed away following an extended illness surrounded by her family at home, Sunday, October 1, 2023.

Peggy was born the second of five children to the late Paul and Polly Abernathy Cantrell, Sautee on May 10, 1948.  She is also preceded in death by her sister, Eula Mae Nix and brother, Tommy Cantrell, brother-in-law, Dr. Gerald Nix.  She was married to her high school sweetheart, Douglas Nix and together they had three children.

Peggy was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church.  She was known as a faithful servant to her church and community.  When there was a need, she was the first one on the scene, usually with a Peanut Butter Cake in hand.  Peggy would stay cooking and cleaning until it was no longer necessary.   She was known as one of the best cooks in White County.  She loved her family and especially her grandchildren, which she would gladly talk to you about them and their accomplishments.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Douglas Nix, children, Ketna (Tommy) Casper, Rev. Nathan (Tina) Nix, Katrice (James) Brooker, all of Cleveland; granddaughters, Jasmyn Casper, Cassidy and Layla Nix, Lilli Kate Brooker; grandsons, Jordan and Jonah Casper, Caleb Nix and Judd Brooker; siblings, Cathey (Bruce) McGinnis, Tony (Tressy) Cantrell, Fritz (Carol) Abernathy; sister-in-law, Melinda Cantrell; brothers-in-law; Ellis Nix, Rodney (Louise) Nix.  

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.  Rev. Nathan Nix and Rev. Josh Chatham will officiate.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 3 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to the Shoal Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund at 142 Shoal Creek Church Road, Cleveland, GA 30528.
