Mary Jo Moye Watson was born July 4, 1935 to Doyle and Florine Hutchens Moye in Hamilton, Georgia. She passed away on September 19, 2023. Mary was the third child of seven siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas David Watson; her son, Joe Mark Watson; her daughter, Joy MarLynn Worth; her sister, Dorothy Moye Cook; her two brothers, Kenneth Moye and Kyle Moye.
Survivors are her daughter, Jan (Marty) Watson Nix; four grandchildren, Brenden (Bekki) Worth; Matthew (Megan) Nix; Jessica (Jonathan) Ritchie; and Connor Worth; sisters, Peggy (Warren) Wright; Shirley Dunahoo; Brenda Rodriguez; brother-in-law, Charles Watson; sisters-in-law, Frances Miller, Beth Netsch, and Anne Gomez; many cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Mary graduated from Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Georgia. She attended Atlanta Christian College, where she met her future husband, Thomas. They were married in 1954. At his death in 2021, they would have been married sixty-seven years.
Thomas and Mary ministered to churches in Florida, Georgia, Illinois and South Carolina. They were recruited to start new churches in some of these locations.
Mary loved to help others and served in many volunteer roles. Some of her volunteer efforts include organizing Girl Scout and Cub Scout troops, delivering Meals on Wheels, directing Vacation Bible Schools, teaching Sunday School, and serving in various capacities and church camps. Thomas and Mary also served as foster parents from 1967-1992. Through those twenty five years, many children were welcomed into their home and family.
Mary enjoyed planting flowers and watching them grow, feeding and learning the names of birds, and watching the squirrels play around the oak tree outside her window. She will be remembered by how much she loved her family and grandchildren.
The service will be held at 2:00 on October 2, 2023 at Memorial Park Funeral Home with visitation at 1:00 prior to the service. Pall bearers are Marty Nix, Brenden Worth, Matthew Nix, Connor Worth, Jonathan Ritchie.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eagle Boys Ranch or a charity of your choice.
