Mildred Smith, 84 passed away September 21st in Gainesville, Ga. Mildred was born on September 3rd, 1939, in Miami, Florida to Harold Eugene and Margaret Helms.
She grew up in Miami Springs, FL and attended Miami Springs Baptist Church. She earned multiple degrees from Stetson University, Nova Southeastern University, and The University of Miami. She had a long and rewarding career as a teacher at Miami Springs Elementary School and Director/Lead Teacher at Miami International Airport Satellite Learning Center. She was a long-time member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, an International Society for outstanding Women Educators. Also, a proud member and Past Queen of the Nahum Temple of the daughters of the Nile.
She married Thomas A. Smith on June 15th, 1963. They raised 2 sons Thomas and Richard.
Mildred and Tom retired to Gainesville, GA in 2006. Thomas A. Smith precedes her in death. She is survived by their two sons and wives (Grace & Holly) and 6 grandchildren (Brittany, Jordan, Meghan, Saylor, Sutton and Connor).
Visitation/Memorial will be Friday September 29, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Little & Davenport Funeral Home, in lieu of flowers, Mildred would wish you to support your local schools and teachers.
