Dwight S. Wood, age 71, of Oakwood, Georgia entered heaven Thursday, September 21, 2023, at his residence with his family by his side. Dwight was born December 25, 1951, in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Donald and Laura Ann Wood. Dwight worked for Hall County Gov't as Deputy Clerk and then Clerk of State and Superior Court for 33 years and then went on to serve the people of Oakwood on the City Council. Dwight received the Stetson F. Bennett Superior Clerk of the Year Award in 2000 for his service and achievements. He was a leader and served on the Georgia Superior Court Clerks Association and the Georgia Constitutional Officers Association. Dwight received numerous awards through the years for his leadership and service.
Dwight loved his children deeply and was loved by many and had so many friends. He had a deep love for corvettes and music and had gone to numerous concerts. His favorite group is Brooks and Dunn and saw them live 22 times. He would karaoke to Neon Moon when he had the chance and loved to travel with his wife Rhonda.
Left to cherish precious memories are his wife Rhonda Wood, stepdaughter Meghan Holladay, son Jerry Wood (Bonnie Sagon), daughters Carrie Owens (Chris Owens), and Jamie Barrere (Josh Barrere). Also survived are a number of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Service honoring Dwight's life will be held Monday September 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Little & Davenport funeral home Chapel in Gainesville, Georgia. He will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery. Gentleman honored to serve as pallbearers are Chris Owens, Jerry Wood, Ricky Thompson, Shane DeLong, Keith Holladay, and Kevin Holladay.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening September 24, 2023, at the funeral home.
